Even though summer has already progressed well into its second half, it nevertheless still possesses enough vigour to deliver days of relentlessly scorching heat, cloudless blue skies, unbearable levels of air humidity, and heavy lethargy.

To this plentiful supply of sunshine and warmth, nature has responded in the most expressive way. In urban areas, muffled sounds of traffic reverberate through the rich scents of summer blossoms emanating from a nearby park while tarry, earthy and metallic odours of hot concrete and steel pierce the scenery with tiny bursts of distressed and uneasy energy.

Echoes of the past

Summer is a time for vacation and relaxation, and the majority of us will associate it with travelling, beaches, music festivals, camping or sightseeing. After all, it is when we spend most of our free time outdoors, enjoying the carefree moments of summer holidays and the glorious weather.

For me, the most profound scented memories of summer are from my childhood. When I close my eyes, I can still vividly smell the jasmine blossoms wafting their bewitching perfume into the cool night air, mixing with the delicate smell of hay and wisps of smoke from the campfire my parents and I sat around.
